Tagalog Instructor Bios



Karen Llagas grew up in the Philippines and is currently based in San Francisco. She's an experienced Tagalog interpreter and translator and have done consecutive, sight and simultaneous medical, legal, business and administrative interpreting, as well as translation localization & subtitling work for legal, medical and tech industries. She teaches Tagalog to adults & children in San Francisco & Berkeley and online, and poetry through California Poets in the Schools . She earned her BA from Ateneo de Manila in the Philippines and her MFA from Warren Wilson College in NC. Her poems have appeared in print and online.



Filipino composer, Robin Estrada received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Ateneo de Manila University and his Bachelor of Music from the University of the Philippines. He completed his Master of Music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and his Master of Arts degree at the University of California, Berkeley. Estrada is presently a Ph.D. candidate at the same UC. As a composer, Estrada’s works have been influenced by his interest in the Philippine languages. Together with his creative output in music composition, he has also taught Filipino for three consecutive years to private students of different age categories and a total of eight years of teaching experience at the college level. His language teaching style focuses more on the conversational approach but also integrates grammar and vocabulary expansion in the program.
